The facts about Gardasil 9
- Covers 9 strains of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which is a sexually transmitted virus: 6,11,16,18,31,33,45,52,58
- HPV strains 16 and 18 cause 70% of cervical cancer and 90% of anal cancer
- HPV strains can also cause oropharyngeal, vulvar, vaginal, and penile cancers
- Gardasil 9 can be administered to females and males between ages 9 and 26
- If started prior to age 15, it is a 2 dose series (6 months between doses), and if started after age 15, it is a 3 dose series (at 0, 2, and 6 months)
- It is recommended to complete the series prior to start of sexual activity
- Research shows excellent antibody responses to the vaccine, with seroconversion rates of 93-100% in females and 99-100% in males
- The vaccine is safe and well tolerated by pediatric patients
