Pyeloplasty is an operation performed for patients with ureteropelvic junction obstruction. This may be a condition the patient is born with or acquired from scarring. Pyeloplasty is an operation where the connection point between the drainage system of the kidney (Renal Pelvis) and the drainage tube (ureter) is reshaped to remove any narrowing or scar, allowing the kidney to drain well. Traditionally these are performed through large, often painful incisions on the side or overlying the ribs. This required a several day hospital stay and prolonged recovery compared to minimally invasive surgery. Jackson Clinic Urologists are skilled in performing Robotic Pyeloplasty utilizing the Da Vinci® surgical robot.
Utilization of the da Vinci® robot offers the following advantages to traditional open kidney surgery:
- Less Blood loss
- Less Pain
- Shorter Hospital Stay
- Fewer complications
- Smaller incisions
